Project Best Warer Use

Association Eco Nevrokop, Gotse Delchev, implemented the Best Water Use project with BEST-U acronym under contract B2.6f.05 dated 02.10.2017 with duration of execution until 01.10.2019.

The project has the task of promoting innovative technologies to improve environmental protection and efficient use of water resources as well as soil conservation.

The project seeks to improve water management by organizing campaigns to promote "green behavior" in the following areas: water management, implementation of pilot activities involving existing innovative methods / technologies and forming a comprehensive educational policy in local self-government.

The specific objectives of the project are:

  • Build capacity for all stakeholders, as well as for water resource management;
  • Improve knowledge and raise awareness of water users, aiming at more effective participation in environmental actions;
  • Develop educational processes that promote a comprehensive, systematic and interdisciplinary approach to environmental issues and optimal water management in particular;
  • To create a sense of responsibility among learners and teachers in terms of environmental protection and sustainable lifestyles.

Specific objectives:

  • Improve water management by promoting green water management campaigns through the implementation of pilot activities involving existing innovative methods / technologies.
  • To form a comprehensive educational policy at the regional level.
  • Build capacity for all stakeholders, as well as water management
  • To improve knowledge and raise consumer awareness, aiming at more effective participation in environmental actions.
  • Develop educational processes that promote a comprehensive, systematic and interdisciplinary approach to environmental issues and optimal water management in particular.
  • To create a sense of responsibility among learners and teachers in terms of environmental protection and sustainable lifestyles.

Target groups

The implementation of the activities is related to the following categories of beneficiaries:

  • Local schools and kindergartens - teachers, older and younger students
  • Farmers / breeders and business - managers of manufacturing companies
  • Local stakeholders - officials in state structures related to water management
  • Residents in the region - households and citizens

Project activities:

  1. Activities contributing to stakeholder capacity building and water resource management:
  • Set up a network of local stakeholders to share policy experience and communication on water in urban areas
  • Pilot action introducing the "best water use" label to award organizations, institutions and schools that perform concrete actions and / or use rational water use equipment
  • Develop an online networking platform for effective communication and experience sharing
  1. Activities to raise awareness of water users, aiming at more effective participation in environmental actions:
  • Researching, recording and documenting the relationships between households and farmers with water
  • Develop rational water management guidelines for different categories of users
  • Develop a guide to good practice, including internationally applied ones
  • Awareness and information campaign
  1. Activities contributing to the development of educational processes:
  • Realizing seminars for teachers in schools and kindergartens that will improve their knowledge of water management and will be able to train on tools and techniques proposed by the BEST-U project
  1. Activities contributing to creating a sense of responsibility among learners and teachers in terms of environmental protection and sustainable living conditions
  • Develop a comprehensive environmental program for schools and kindergartens that includes information and awareness raising activities for students. Children will participate in an effort to prove that using simple ways and more responsible behavior can reduce water loss. Then the pupils will commit to inform and pass on the lessons learned to the rest of their classmates and parents
  • Development of electronic tools (e-learning), electronic learning materials (e-games) and mobile phone applications

  • Information days in Greece and Bulgaria, organized by each project partner to promote the activities and objectives of the project
  • "Best Water Use" Labeling Events in Greece and Bulgaria organized by each project partner after detailed research and analysis
  • Workshop / workshop on the capitalization of collected information in Thessaloniki
  • Concluding press conference in Thessaloniki

Estimated results from the realization of activity:

  • Appropriate responsible behaviour towards the environment will contribute to the sustainable conservation and conservation of water resources and the environment as a whole
  • Children with appropriate environmental behaviour will take action to draw the attention of their parents and cohabitants to the importance of water and ways to save water
  • Creating a network that brings together educational organizations, local authorities and the general public on water management issues. This network will share experience in policies and communication on water in urban areas, as well as exchange existing technologies and know-how among network members (institution building)
  • Provide a comprehensive governance framework for local authorities to effectively and efficiently implement EU policies, strategies, legislation and commitments related to sustainable water management in their areas
  • Promoting integrated sustainable water management directed at urban waters by training local water authorities to make best use of water collected and analysed by capitalizing on EU best practices
  • Removing public health hazards through better water management, increasing the sense of security among the local population

Economic Development Agency Bansko - a non-profit association established for the purpose of dialogue and joint activities between the local authorities, the private sector and non-governmental organizations to contribute to the economic and social development of Bansko municipality

Agency for Economic Development High Western Rhodopes - a non-profit association established to support the development of a local business environment with a special focus on tourism and agriculture, nature conservation and support the establishment of a sustainable partnership between local authorities, the private sector and society as a whole

LOcal products Festivals and Tourism development in cross-border cooperation Greece-Bulgaria

The project is implemented by the Association Eco Nevrokop in partnership with the University "Aristotle" Thessaloniki (Greece), Exhibitions Research Institute Thessaloniki (Greece), Municipality of Nea Zihni (Greece), Southwestern University Blagoevgrad and Decentralized Administration Makedoniya- Trakia Thessaloniki (Greece). It is implemented with the financial support of the European Territorial Cooperation Programme Greece - Bulgaria 2007-2013, financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund.

Period of realization - June 2013 - June 2015


The project aims at promoting and improving the local cultural events directly related to local production in the border region Greece - Bulgaria. To achieve this the project is developing partnerships with existing local festivals and activities that include formation and maintenance of a network of mutual assistance between local organizers of festivals.

Promoting typical local traditional products, well recognized as an essential element of local culture is important for the branding of the region. In this regard the project explores alternative ways to preserve traditional products and production processes by organizing a new festival and through joint activities, including competition of local festivals and products.

Actions of the partners:

- Identify and assess the impact of existing cultural events (directly related to local products);
- Identify other traditional / local products forming part of the cultural identity of the region and offering alternatives for their promotion through existing or new festivals / fairs;
- Joint activities of the organizers of existing local festivals to include other stakeholders (local authorities, associations, etc.) And in particular those involved with projects in the field of tourism and culture;
- Developing and maintaining multilingual web portal for local festivals, including Guise web tool to facilitate interaction with the users of the site;
- Produce a promotional stand, promoting cooperation network of local festivals and related traditional and / or local products and manufacturing processes;
- Organization of a new festivals in Gotse Delchev and in Nea Zihn

Activities of Eco Nevrokop:

  • Management and project coordination;

  • Produsing of stand for festivals;
  • Make researches and development of strategic and operational plan;
  • Arrange pilot activities - a new festival in Gotse Delchev, rewarding for festivals, visit the Festival of Nea Zihni and a traveling exhibition of local products;
  • Common pilot activities - creating a network for cooperation between local organizers of festivals in the border region

Results of the project:

Festivals and fairs related to local products represent an important cultural asset in the area Greece-Bulgaria and significantly contribute to the preservation and promotion of traditional products, related production methods and various tools and equipment. They constitute an important part of the local cultural identity and authenticity of the region. But these days such events are relatively poorly advertised. Implementation of the project implemented a series of coordination initiatives that contribute to a joint promotion, improvement and further development of local events and turning them into tourist attractions.

The project provided an opportunity both to improve cooperation between local organizers of festivals in the region and further development of tourism by organizing various events.

Direct indicators:

  • Identified and organized local producers of traditional products - fabrics, woven and embroidered items, wood carving, wooden household items, pottery, making musical instruments, wine, traditional cuisine and agricultural products, and many others;
  • Training of organizers of festivals;
  • Made promotional stand used to visit the existing festival to promote the products and traditions associated with them;
  • Created, organized and conducted new festival promotes cultural wealth of the region of Gotse Delchev;
  • Improving cultural and economic relations;
  • Promotion of local products;
  • Further development of tourism activities and improving the tourist;
  • Improving the image of the region as a destination for cultural tourism and community that keeps its traditions and identity
